Manipulation under anesthesia in Springfield for spinal pain is an alternative procedure that should be considered if surgery has been suggested. This spinal manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) is a non invasive procedure that is able to treat chronic neck and back pain when regular adjustments or physical therapy do not work.
MUA is performed by various manipulations from chiropractors or osteopaths. These are short-lever spinal manipulations, articular and postural maneuvers, and passive stretches. The procedures listed can change depending upon which clinic you visit, since there are no formal standards for the procedure thus far. MUA is performed in a hospital or surgery center. You will be put under one of the following anesthetics: general anesthesia, mild sedation, or local anesthetic. Spinal MUA normally takes less than an hour, and the recovery is fairly easy.
Our manipulation under anesthesia Springfield provides a medical team who performs the procedure. These are: a lead chiropractor, assistant doctor, anesthesiologist, and other assistants/nurses.
Manipulation under anesthesia is most commonly performed for chronic neck or back pain that involves either tissue inflammation, muscle tenderness/ spasm, and reduced range of motion. Sometimes an entrapped nerve causes pain down into the arm or leg, or even up the head, and spinal manipulation can help this as well. Tons of people have had successful outcomes with spinal MUA, although the procedure has not been scientifically proven to be effective. For this reason, research is still ongoing.
Manipulation under anesthesia Springfield for spinal pain does contain a few risks, as does any procedure. The main risks being an adverse reaction to anesthesia, worsening of the existing spinal condition, stroke, paralysis, and others. These are very rare, so there is no need to worry. To reduce the risks, a patient history and physical exam will always be conducted for your safety.
