Chiropractic treatments are now seen as mainstream. Indeed many insurance plans cater for the treatment and chiropractors are at last getting credit for helping people out of pain. The concept of chiropractic (which is formulated by two Greek words effectively meaning care by hand) was coined in 1896 when David Daniel Palmer became the “Father of Chiropractic” when he healed a deaf man by spinal manipulation. Consider sciatica for example. If you have pain due to sciatica it’s probably that your sciatic nerve is trapped or infringed upon by your spine and joints. A visit to your GP would likely see you come out with some pain killers to dull the pain until the problem disappears. The pain killers attack the symptoms.
However, a visit to your chiropractor sees the problem attacked and focused on. Decompression of joints will allow the sciatic nerve to be freed and thus allow it to function normally. The result is you are out of pain and you are healed. The best part is that it was completely natural and no pain killers were needed.
That’s not to say that pain killers don’t have their place, because they do. If your pain is so intense, it might be that you take pain killers to control the pain and then a visit to the chiropractor will be able to fix the problem without causing any more pain. SO in that way, drugs and chiro can be a powerful force in dealing with the issue.
But ultimately, chiropractic care is conservative and any side effects are minimal.
