Many women experience some form of low back pain during their pregnancy. This is an added stress to the many other things a woman may worry about during her pregnancy, so today, we are going to be giving you some tips on how you can reduce your pregnancy related low back pain.
Manipulation
is a great way to ease lower back pain. Various studies have shown that chiropractic manipulation can help to manage pregnancy related low back pain. Around 75 percent of women who have been given chiropractic manipulation during their pregnancy reported a huge reduction in pain. Manipulation can also have some other great effects. About 4 out of 5 of the 75 percent of women also reported overall reduced pregnancy symptoms. These include typical pregnancy symptoms like: heartburn, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and neck pain. Studies also show that women who receive pregnancy related low back pain experience less postpartum back pain than the average woman in postpartum.
Exercise
may not seem like the first thing you want to do during your pregnancy, but new studies have shown that healthy women should continue or begin moderate exercise for at least 150 minutes per week during their pregnancy. Therapeutic active exercises, like yoga, have been proven to manage low back pain for women as well. Some exercises that you can follow are: pelvic tilts, knee to chest stretches, hamstring stretches, and other stability exercises that target the abs or glutes.
Modalities
are popular in treating regular patients for low back pain, but can they help ease pregnancy related low back pain? There have been many studies done on using modalities, one being e-stim, during pregnancy. More studies need to be done to fully figure out whether or not this is safe, but for now, doctors and chiropractors are suggesting that you just use exercise and manipulation to deal with pain.
Education
is the most important tool that should be under your belt. By doing research and asking your doctors all the questions you might have is the best, and safest option above all.
