Regenerative medicine has arrived here in Springfield and Dr Dormer has already hosted a couple of events for people interested in the treatment for their pain. In these events, Dr Dormer has presented valuable information on what regenerative medicine does and how it can help to heal areas of the body and reduce pain.
In her latest presentation, she started off using an example of an iguana. It has an incredible ability to regrow its tale. Contrast that to us as humans. We can’t regrow our limbs. So scientists looked at how iguanas were able to regenerate their tales and discovered the regenerative process.
However, us as humans do have regenerative properties as she continued. Think about when we get cut. Within a week, we are healed. The body effectively regenerates itself. And it’s from these cuts, that we get something known as Platelet-rich plasma that we can extract from our bodies, spin to separate from our blood and then re-inject into the body at the point of injury. This helps to speed up the process of healing.
She also gave an interesting example of a horse from the 1970s. This horse was very valuable and it had a knee problem. Doctors used the PRP treatment therapy and added dye into the solution to watch where and how the liquid would go and work. It went directly to the injured knee, but it also went to the liver? Why? Because the liver had a condition to it and required some of this healing solution as well.
And so, regenerative medicine began its rise as a treatment.
Dr Dormer continued her seminar explaining the differences between stem cells and PRP treatment to injuries and again provided examples of each. She plans to host several seminars each year. To learn when the next seminar is, check out our Facebook events page. There may also be other events that interest you as well. You can also call us (908) 325-3000 to learn more.
So if you have chronic pain, you’ve tried things that haven’t worked or given you the results you want, then regenerative medicine in Springfield may be the way to go. Call us today to find out more.
