Hip Pain Treatment at Back and Body Pain Relief
About Our Springfield Hip Pain Practice
Back and Body Pain Relief is a multidisciplinary clinic at 355 Route 22 E, Suite D, Springfield Township, NJ 07081. We diagnose and treat hip pain across the full spectrum — from acute sports injuries and bursitis to chronic conditions including gluteal tendinopathy, femoroacetabular impingement, and hip osteoarthritis — using advanced diagnostics and coordinated conservative care.
Hip pain is frequently misdiagnosed and undertreated — partly because pain in the hip region can originate from the hip joint itself, the surrounding muscles and tendons, the lumbar spine, or the sacroiliac joint. Getting the diagnosis right is essential, and our combination of on-site imaging and clinical assessment means we build a precise picture of your condition before recommending any treatment.
Hip Conditions We Treat
- Hip osteoarthritis — degenerative joint disease causing progressive pain, stiffness, and loss of range of motion
- Gluteal tendinopathy — degeneration of the gluteus medius and minimus tendons at their attachment to the greater trochanter
- Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (hip bursitis) — pain on the outer hip from trochanteric bursa inflammation
- Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) — abnormal contact between the femoral head and acetabulum causing groin and hip pain
- Hip flexor strains — tears or strains of the iliopsoas and rectus femoris, common in sprinting and kicking sports
- Labral tears — tears of the hip labrum from impingement, trauma, or repetitive stress
- Deep gluteal syndrome / piriformis syndrome — sciatic nerve compression in the gluteal region
- IT band syndrome — lateral hip and thigh pain from iliotibial band tightness
- Sacroiliac joint dysfunction — SI joint pain referring into the hip and buttock
- Referred hip pain from the lumbar spine — nerve root irritation producing hip and leg symptoms
Our Diagnostic Approach
Diagnostic ultrasound is the primary tool for soft tissue hip assessment — providing real-time imaging of the gluteal tendons, hip flexors, bursa, and surrounding structures. We can identify tendon tears, tendinopathy, bursitis, and hip joint effusion directly.
On-site X-ray evaluates the hip joint, femoral head, acetabulum, and sacroiliac joints for structural changes, arthritis, and FAI morphology.
NCV/EMG testing differentiates hip pain from lumbar nerve root compression — essential when radiating leg symptoms are present alongside hip pain.

🏥 Hip Pain Treatments at Back and Body Pain Relief
Our hip treatment plans combine targeted manual therapy, rehabilitation, and advanced treatments to address the specific cause of your hip pain and achieve lasting functional recovery.
🏃 Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation
Hip rehabilitation addresses the gluteal weakness, hip flexor tightness, and movement dysfunction that underlie most hip pain conditions. Progressive loading of the gluteal tendons is particularly important for gluteal tendinopathy and greater trochanteric pain syndrome, and our on-site gym provides the equipment for this at every stage.
💥 Shockwave Therapy
First-line treatment for gluteal tendinopathy and greater trochanteric pain syndrome — stimulating tendon healing and reducing chronic inflammation at the greater trochanter attachment. Highly effective for hip conditions that have not responded to rest and rehabilitation alone.
🦴 Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic assessment and treatment of the hip joint, sacroiliac joint, and lumbar spine — addressing joint dysfunction and nerve irritation that contribute to hip pain from multiple directions.
💡 Class IV Laser Therapy
Deep tissue laser reduces hip joint and soft tissue inflammation, supports tendon healing, and provides drug-free pain relief — particularly effective alongside rehabilitation for tendinopathy and bursitis.
🤲 Medical Massage
Soft tissue therapy targeting the hip flexors, piriformis, IT band, and gluteal muscles — releasing tension and adhesions that restrict hip movement and contribute to pain.
💉 Trigger Point Injections
Targeted injections for persistent hip and gluteal trigger points — common in greater trochanteric pain syndrome and deep gluteal syndrome — providing rapid relief and enabling rehabilitation to progress.
🧘 Acupuncture
Supports hip pain management through neurological pain modulation and reduction of local inflammation — particularly valuable for hip osteoarthritis and chronic tendinopathy.
⚡ Electric Stimulation
Reduces pain and muscle spasm in the hip and gluteal region, used alongside manual therapy to improve treatment tolerance and outcomes.
Hip Pain FAQs
How do I know if my hip pain is coming from my hip or my back?
Pain from the hip joint typically presents in the groin, with stiffness and restricted rotation. Pain from the lumbar spine or sacroiliac joint tends to present more in the outer hip, buttock, or down the leg. In practice, many patients have contributions from both areas — which is why our comprehensive assessment approach is particularly valuable for hip pain.
Can hip osteoarthritis be managed without surgery?
Yes, for many patients. Conservative care including targeted rehabilitation, laser therapy, acupuncture, and manual therapy can significantly reduce pain and improve function in hip osteoarthritis — often delaying or avoiding the need for joint replacement.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. Call 908-325-3000 or book online.
What is gluteal tendinopathy?
Gluteal tendinopathy is a common cause of outer hip pain, particularly in women over 40 and in runners. It involves degeneration of the gluteus medius tendon at its attachment to the greater trochanter. It is frequently misdiagnosed as hip bursitis and responds well to shockwave therapy and progressive loading rehabilitation.
Can you help with hip pain during running?
Yes. Hip pain in runners is one of our most common presentations. We assess running biomechanics, hip strength, and movement patterns to identify why the hip is being overloaded — and build a rehabilitation plan that allows you to return to running without recurrence.
