Knee Pain Treatment at Back and Body Pain Relief

About Our Springfield Knee Pain Practice

Back and Body Pain Relief is a multidisciplinary clinic at 355 Route 22 E, Suite D, Springfield Township, NJ 07081. We treat knee pain across the full spectrum — from acute ligament and meniscus injuries to chronic conditions including osteoarthritis, patellar tendinopathy, and IT band syndrome — using advanced diagnostics and a full range of conservative treatments.

Knee pain is one of the most common reasons people limit their physical activity, yet many cases are highly treatable with the right combination of diagnosis and targeted rehabilitation. Whether your knee pain comes from a sports injury, a slip and fall, years of overuse, or the gradual onset of arthritis, our team has the expertise and tools to identify the cause and build a plan to resolve it.

Knee Conditions We Treat

  • Ligament sprains and tears — ACL, PCL, MCL, and LCL injuries from sports and accidents
  • Meniscus injuries — acute tears from twisting injuries and degenerative tears from wear over time
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee) — overuse degeneration of the patellar tendon common in running and jumping sports
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee) — pain behind or around the kneecap from poor patellar tracking
  • IT band syndrome — lateral knee pain from iliotibial band tightness, common in runners and cyclists
  • Knee osteoarthritis — degenerative joint disease causing stiffness, pain, and reduced function
  • Bursitis — inflammation of the bursae around the knee joint
  • Plica syndrome — irritation of the synovial folds within the knee joint
  • Post-surgical knee rehabilitation — recovery following ACL reconstruction, meniscectomy, and knee replacement

Our Diagnostic Approach

Diagnostic ultrasound provides real-time imaging of the soft tissue structures around the knee — tendons, ligaments, bursae, and the joint itself. We can identify tears, tendinopathy, effusion, and inflammation with excellent detail for soft tissue structures.

On-site X-ray assesses bony alignment, joint space, and structural changes — particularly valuable for evaluating osteoarthritis severity and post-traumatic knee injuries.

🏥 Knee Pain Treatments at Back and Body Pain Relief

Our knee pain treatment plans are built around your specific diagnosis — combining manual therapy, rehabilitation, and advanced treatments to achieve genuine tissue healing and long-term functional recovery.

🏃 Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation

The cornerstone of most knee pain treatment — addressing the muscular imbalances, movement dysfunction, and biomechanical factors that drive knee injury and prevent recovery. Our on-site gym allows for progressive, sport-specific rehabilitation at every stage of recovery.

💥 Shockwave Therapy

Highly effective for patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, and other chronic knee conditions. Shockwave therapy stimulates tendon healing, reduces pain, and breaks down restrictive scar tissue — particularly valuable for conditions that have not responded to rest and rehabilitation alone.

🦴 Chiropractic Care

Dr Perna’s CCEP certification covers extremity joints including the knee. Chiropractic assessment and treatment of the knee joint, hip, and lumbar spine addresses the full kinetic chain contributing to knee pain — including common hip and lumbar contributors that are often overlooked.

💡 Class IV Laser Therapy

Deep tissue laser reduces knee inflammation, accelerates healing of tendons and ligaments, and provides drug-free pain relief — valuable for both acute knee injuries and chronic degenerative conditions.

🤲 Medical Massage

Soft tissue release targeting the quadriceps, hamstrings, IT band, and calf muscles — addressing the muscular contributors to knee pain and improving joint mobility.

💉 Trigger Point Injections

For knee pain with a significant muscular trigger point component — particularly in the quadriceps and IT band — targeted injections can provide rapid relief and enable rehabilitation to progress.

🧘 Acupuncture

Clinically supported for knee osteoarthritis and chronic knee pain — reducing inflammation, managing pain, and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.

⚡ Electric Stimulation

Reduces knee pain and muscle spasm, and is often used alongside physical therapy sessions to improve comfort and treatment effectiveness.

Knee Pain FAQs

Can knee pain be treated without surgery?

The majority of knee pain conditions respond well to conservative care. Even many ACL injuries, meniscus tears, and osteoarthritis cases can achieve excellent functional outcomes with the right combination of physical therapy, manual therapy, and targeted treatments. Surgery is generally reserved for cases with significant structural instability or those that have not responded to adequate conservative treatment.

My knee has been painful for years — is it too late to treat it?

No. Chronic knee pain often responds well to treatment once the correct diagnosis is established and a targeted plan is implemented. Our diagnostic-first approach is particularly valuable for longstanding knee pain — identifying contributing factors that may have been overlooked and building a systematic plan to address them.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. Call 908-325-3000 or book online.

Can you help with knee pain from arthritis?

Yes. While we cannot reverse arthritic changes, we can significantly reduce pain, improve joint function, and slow the progression of knee osteoarthritis through targeted rehabilitation, laser therapy, acupuncture, and manual therapy.

I’ve had knee surgery — can you help with rehabilitation?

Yes. We provide post-surgical rehabilitation for ACL reconstruction, meniscectomy, and knee replacement, working alongside your surgical team to guide recovery and return to function.
