Posture & Ergonomics at Back and Body Pain Relief
About Our Springfield Posture Practice
Back and Body Pain Relief is a multidisciplinary clinic at 355 Route 22 E, Suite D, Springfield Township, NJ 07081. We assess and treat postural dysfunction — the accumulated impact of poor sitting posture, tech neck, workplace ergonomics, and movement imbalances that drive a significant proportion of the neck pain, back pain, and headaches we see.
Poor posture is not simply about how you sit or stand. It reflects a pattern of muscular imbalances, joint restrictions, and movement habits that develop over years of sustained positions — and it becomes a persistent source of pain when the body can no longer compensate. Correcting posture requires both treating the pain it has already caused and addressing the underlying pattern to prevent it from returning.
Postural Issues We Address
- Forward head posture (tech neck) — the most prevalent postural pattern today, driven by screen use and associated with neck pain, headaches, and upper back tension
- Upper crossed syndrome — tight chest and neck flexors paired with weak deep neck flexors and mid-back muscles, producing rounded shoulders and cervical strain
- Lower crossed syndrome — tight hip flexors and lumbar extensors paired with weak glutes and abdominals, driving lower back pain and anterior pelvic tilt
- Kyphosis — excessive thoracic rounding associated with mid-back pain, rib restriction, and respiratory impact
- Scoliosis-related postural pain — pain associated with spinal curvature and the compensatory patterns it produces
- Workplace-related postural strain — pain from sustained desk postures, poor monitor height, non-ergonomic seating, and keyboard or mouse positioning
- Postural contributors to headaches — cervicogenic headaches and tension headaches driven by sustained forward head posture
Our Assessment Approach
Our postural assessment goes beyond observation. We identify the specific pattern of muscular tightness and weakness driving your posture, evaluate joint restriction throughout the spine, and assess how your workplace setup or daily movement habits are perpetuating the problem.
On-site X-ray provides objective measurement of spinal alignment — allowing us to quantify forward head posture, thoracic kyphosis, and lumbar lordosis, track changes over the course of treatment, and identify structural contributors to postural pain.
Diagnostic ultrasound evaluates the soft tissue changes associated with chronic postural strain — including muscle atrophy, fascial thickening, and tendon changes in the cervical and thoracic regions.

🏥 Posture & Ergonomics Treatments at Back and Body Pain Relief
Effective posture correction requires treating both the pain that poor posture has caused and the underlying pattern driving it. Our treatments work on both levels — providing relief while systematically rebalancing the muscular and joint system.
🏃 Physical Therapy
The foundation of posture correction. Our physical therapists design targeted programmes addressing the specific muscular imbalances driving your postural pattern — strengthening the deep stabilisers, releasing the overactive muscles, and retraining movement patterns through progressive exercise and hands-on guidance.
🦴 Chiropractic Care
Joint restriction in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine is both a cause and consequence of poor posture. Chiropractic adjustment restores normal mobility to restricted segments — allowing the muscular system to function correctly and making postural correction exercises far more effective.
🤲 Medical Massage
The chronically shortened muscles associated with poor posture — chest, cervical flexors, hip flexors, upper trapezius — respond well to therapeutic massage. Releasing these tissues reduces postural strain and allows the strengthening work to take effect.
💉 Trigger Point Injections
For the persistent trigger points in the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, and suboccipital muscles associated with forward head posture and upper crossed syndrome — injections provide rapid relief and restore the ability to engage in corrective exercise.
⚡ Electric Stimulation
Electrical stimulation to the cervical and thoracic paraspinal muscles helps release chronic tension patterns associated with poor posture — used alongside manual therapy and exercise to support the rebalancing process.
💡 Class IV Laser Therapy
Laser therapy reduces the chronic low-grade inflammation associated with postural strain — particularly in the cervical spine and upper thoracic region — supporting tissue recovery alongside corrective exercise.
🧘 Acupuncture
Addresses the pain and muscular tension associated with chronic postural strain — particularly effective for the headaches, neck pain, and upper back tension that accompany forward head posture.
💥 Shockwave Therapy
For chronic myofascial pain associated with longstanding postural imbalances — breaking down adhesions and stimulating tissue remodelling in the affected areas.
Posture & Ergonomics FAQs
Can bad posture really cause this much pain?
Yes. Forward head posture adds significant mechanical load to the cervical spine — for every inch of forward head translation, the effective weight on the neck roughly doubles. Over years, this sustained overload produces joint degeneration, muscular fatigue, disc changes, and nerve irritation. Many cases of chronic neck pain, headaches, and upper back pain are primarily postural in origin.
Can posture be corrected in adults?
Yes — postural patterns are driven by muscular imbalances and joint restrictions that are correctable at any age. The process takes time and consistent effort, but the combination of manual therapy to restore joint mobility and targeted exercise to rebalance the muscular system produces genuine, lasting improvement.
Can you assess my workstation ergonomics?
Yes. Workstation ergonomics are frequently a major driver of postural pain, and addressing them is an essential part of treatment. We provide practical ergonomic guidance as part of your treatment plan.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. Call 908-325-3000 or book online.
How long does posture correction take?
Meaningful postural improvement typically takes several months of consistent treatment and exercise. Pain relief often occurs earlier in the process. We set realistic expectations at your initial assessment and use objective measurements to track your progress.
