Cold laser therapy is a great treatment option designed at helping improve healing times and decreasing pain. It’s been around for several decades and particularly in the past decade or so, it’s results have improved significantly. There have been many thousands of papers written on it and numerous studies exploring its virtues.
The key aspects of cold laser therapy are that it is non invasive, requires no medications, and has few side effects. It is very effective in reducing inflammation and pain.
At both our practices, we use cold laser therapy as one of our treatment options. Sometimes, depending on the patient’s problem, we may utilize it alongside other relevant treatment therapies as well to maximize its effects.
We have used it to treat our patients and also professional athletes. Indeed the therapy is used throughout most professional sports including the NFL. Recently, Antonio Brown of Oakland Raiders fame injured his feet during a cryotherapy session in France. He had gone into the chamber with only socks on and the treatment caused damage to his feet. Cold laser therapy has been employed to help with his healing of his problem and to help him return to action sooner rather than later.
The lasers used on him are quite similar to what we use at our practices. We use class IV LiteCure lasers. These lasers help to relieve pain and also to augment the healing process.
Cold laser therapy helps patients suffering many conditions including back pain, neck pain, sciatica, soft tissue injuries, arthritis and more. More and more applications are being discovered each year with the therapy and it has that massive advantage over traditional medicine in that there are little to no contraindications.
