Cold and flu viruses seek willing hosts to do their dirty work. If you’re frequently their victim, you may have a compromised or weak immune system.
Much of building your immunity to infectious diseases has to do with lifestyle. Healthy eating, adequate sleep and sufficient exercise all work together to help you fight disease. But did you know that chiropractic care can help too?
Your immune system is a key life support when you keep it strong and resilient. Not only are you better able to resist infectious diseases, you more readily recover from them when they manage to slip past your defenses.
Good habits
Most people know that Vitamin C works to defend our bodies from colds and flus. But many of us don’t get enough of it in our diets. Of course, I recommend that you select foods rich in this vitamin. But there’s nothing wrong with supplementing your diet, during peak flu and cold season.
Leafy greens like kale and spinach are packed with Vitamin C. as well as citrus fruits. Getting more of these powerful foods supplies additional antioxidant defense.
Regular exercise is another surefire way to boost your immunity. Blood pressure, blood sugar levels and your digestive system will all be healthier when you exercise regularly. For my money, this is one of the most important ways to get your body healthy and keep it that way. Talk to any healthy senior and they’ll tell you that exercise is the key to a long and healthy life.
The chiropractic boost
I can tell you with complete confidence that you can boost your immunity with chiropractic care. When your spine is correctly aligned, your body works more efficiently and that includes your all-important immune system.
Your spine’s role in the function of the central nervous system is undeniable. When it’s properly aligned, communications between somatic systems is more free-flowing. Just like an office with its various departments, communication bottlenecks can slow everything down, causing dysfunction.
When your spine is aligned, range of motion is enhanced and pain is far less likely to be a problem. Most of my patients also report that regular alignments gave them the physical sense that they were in good shape and being in good shape is a great way to keep “the sicks” away.
A case in point is a study done at Life University, involving participants with an HIV-positive status. The study sought to interrogate a possible connection between immune system health and chiropractic.
Participants in the study saw an almost 50% increase in CD4 cells – a crucial part of your immune system. That’s an incredible finding and one which was proven in a sampling of people with severely compromised immune systems.
