Being active and fit is a no brainer. We already know the effects that an active lifestyle have for us in the physical body. Springfield is a great place to be active and to play sports and we see many come into our practice here to help them to remain at peak fitness as well as helping with any injuries along the way. But an active lifestyle helps us in other ways, particularly with kids and particularly in mental ways.
A study was carried out in 2017 on children aged between 7 and 9. The study was published in the April 2017 edition of Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise.
The researchers observed that kids who had a greater muscle score also performed better in memory tests. This suggests that kids who were more active and played sports, were fitter had better cognitive skills and function.
So while we already knew the physical benefits to staying fit we now have evidence that there are cognitive areas that also benefit from it. Bottom line is to get your kids away from the X-Box and outside playing or doing sports. It will help them both physically and mentally, even with confidence as well.
