Benefits of Combining Chiropractic Care and Acupuncture

November 10, 2017 By Dr David Perna DC

I’m very proud to be associated with Back & Body Medical.  That’s due in larger measure to the multi-disciplinarian model we work from here.

While chiropractic is a standalone medical discipline, combining it with the other medical areas available here provides our patients with comprehensive care that addresses them as unique people.

These human bodies we move through the world in are based on only one prototype.  That said, every body has its own needs and realities.

The integrated care at Back & Body takes this into account, offering therapies from chiropractic, sports medicine, physical therapy and acupuncture.

This post will describe the benefits of combining chiropractic and acupuncture and the one-two pain relief punch they represent when practiced in harmony.

Bread and butter therapies.

Bread and butter are BFFs from way back, but acupuncture and chiropractic are good together, too.  Using acupuncture in concert with chiropractic gives chiropractors a much more thoroughly prepared body to work with, for starters.

Acupuncture can reduce pain signals to the brain.  It can also increase blood flow and loosen tight muscles.  When muscles are tight, that’s part of the pain signal your brain’s getting.  Muscular response serves only to intensify it.

With acupuncture working in harmony with chiropractic, patients are ready for what chiropractic has to offer.  When muscles are no longer tensed, as they try to defend the body from pain, they’re more conducive to adjustment and manipulation.

Working together, these treatment models support one another to provide patients with concerted, expedited healing.

What are the benefits?

When these two disciplines are combined, patients are provided with a complex of medical support that strengthens the body, including its immune system.  The effect is an invigoration of body mechanics and physical chemistry which have been suppressed by pain.

The benefits of combining chiropractic care and acupuncture extend to increased flexibility.  It’s also been seen that combining the two treatments is extraordinarily helpful to cancer patients who may be suffering from nausea and other side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

They say that two heads are better than one and in terms of pain relief, these two disciplines are a natural fit, when combined to restore balance in the body.

Central to these benefits is the status of the nervous system, directly addressed by both chiropractic and acupuncture, through very different methodologies.  While acupuncture seeks to instigate chemical responses, chiropractic seeks to realign the body.  Using the two together has tremendous benefits for patients and at Back & Body, we’ve seen exceptional outcomes.

Back & Body Medical.

Back & Body’s award-winning, integrated approach to healing is rapidly gaining widespread recognition.  Instead of working a vacuum, practitioners are empowered to offer patients advanced options, drawing on four distinct medical disciplines.

The patient is given the advantage of finding it all under one roof.  With Back & Body, there’s no running all over town to get the relief you need.  It’s all here, with a cohesive team of professionals at your disposal.
