Can I See a Chiropractor If I’ve Had Back Or Neck Surgery?

May 19, 2018 By Dr David Perna DC

I know I say the words “it depends” on this blog quite a lot.  That’s because there are so many variables involved in the practice of my medical discipline that I absolutely must keep saying it.

And seeing me after you’ve had back or neck surgery is no exception.

Much relies on the status of the surgical intervention you’ve undergone, its nature and the progress of your condition following surgery.  While some chiropractic treatments are probably right for you, others may not be.

Let’s explore the question.

Diagnostics and history

When you come to see me about chiropractic care following surgery, I’ll need to see your X-rays and any other diagnostic imaging your doctor has commissioned, including those taken following surgery.

It’s also important to understand the type and location of the surgery.  For example, if you’ve had surgery to the neck, it might not be advisable to pursue adjustment.  All the same, I can help you with pain being experienced in other parts of the body.

Sometimes people’s bodies compensate in strange ways following a major surgery and chiropractic care can help with that, easing the way forward.

But when you come to see me, you’re also coming to see a team of skilled clinicians who work together to find the right solution to the pain you’re experiencing.  If it turns out that what I offer is either inappropriate for your recovery from surgery, or not sufficient to ease the pain, I have support here that can find the right answer for you.

The multi-disciplinarian advantage

Post-surgical patients can attend Back & Body Medical in New Jersey with complete confidence that they’ll find the relief they need.  Many people benefit solely from the application of therapies I practice as a chiropractor.  Others, though, may need the support of a sports medicine expert, physical therapist or acupuncturist.

And you’ll find clinicians practicing all these disciplines at Back & Body Medical.

When clinicians from different disciplines work together toward resolving pain, the results can be remarkable.  Because we complement each other’s work by building care plans individualized to the patient, we bring our patients superior outcomes.

And nothing fits better than a bespoke solution.  Am I right?

Award-winning care

Back & Body’s Manhattan facility has received multiple awards for our integrated pain relief model.  We’ve now brought it to New Jersey to serve patients close to home.  Instead of needing to travel to the Big Apple, New Jersey patients now have in-state access, for their comfort and convenience.

And that’s another great thing about what we do here.  We do it under one roof.  That means you come to one facility to benefit from four diverse medical disciplines.  You save time and you’re not making matters worse by having to heave yourself in and out of taxis as you shuttle from one office to the next.

If you’re recovering from neck or back surgery and need the support of pain relief professionals, then contact us to schedule an appointment.  Feel better, with award-winning care.
