Searching for hypertension or blood pressure treatment in Springfield? While there are many ways to control high blood pressure, one area which isn’t considered too often is chiropractic care and how it can reduce blood pressure.
But how can chiropractic possibly do this?
A study that was highlighted by the medical site, WebMD back in 2007 had a study of a control group of some 50 patients, all suffering from high blood pressure. One group had a chiropractic treatment applied to them that has been shown to be beneficial to high blood pressure. The other group had a sham adjustment.
It was found that the 25 patients with the proper adjustment (which was done on their Atlas area) had a significant reduction in blood pressure. Moreover, this effect lasted some 8 weeks and no patients had to take medication. The other 25 patients experienced no relief at all in regards their blood pressure.
The leader of the study, a Dr George Bakris, director of University of Chicago’s hypertension center stated “This procedure has the effect of not one, but two blood pressure medications given in combination. And it seems to be adverse-event free. We saw no side effects and no problems.”
Furthermore, many other studies into the effects of chiropractic treatment and high blood pressure have been made from the early 80s to date. Those studies also showed a benefit to receiving such treatment. The theory as to why it helps is possibly due to the parasympathetic nervous system which is related to the lower number of the blood pressure measuring system (diastolic) and the mid thoracic which impacts the systolic (the larger number on the scale). These two areas have been shown to reduce blood pressure.
Of course, this is very good news for people who don’t want to be reliant on medications to lower their blood pressure. If a chiropractic adjustment every two months is all it takes to reduce blood pressure, then that’s an excellent option to have.
So if you suffer from high blood pressure, why not try a chiropractic adjustment to see if it will help you?
