Have you heard of cold laser therapy? It’s a great treatment that offers little to no contra indications, is effective and helps patients get out of pain. It has actually been around for 50 years and has had many papers and studies written on it (over 5000). It’s FDA cleared to be applied to certain treatments and is even used in the veterinarian field too as it’s become so effective. At Back and Body we are using cold laser therapy for pain relief here in Springfield. If you are in pain, you may be a candidate for the treatment.
Here’s some frequently asked questions about the treatment, as people are still a little confused about what it actually is.
It’s a laser, so why is it called cold laser?
When we think of a laser, we think of something that could cut steel or is very hot. With these lasers, when they are applied to the afflicted area of pain, most patients will feel nothing (a few may feel a tingling sensation). The laser is not hot but it is not cold either in the sense you may think. In comparison with the hot lasers, it is cold, but to the skin, you won’t feel any temperature difference at all.
What is it used for?
Cold laser therapy has many uses and a list of many of the applications can be seen here. It’s great for joint pain and arthritis in particular and can help many patients who have been suffering for years finally find some relief.
Are there any side effects?
Not really. While nothing is 100% safe, there are really no contra indications to speak of. Just don’t use it on the eyes, thyroid area or any cancerous lesions, but we are well aware of how to use the equipment and will properly treat you.
How long do treatments need to be applied for?
It all depends on the type of injury and seriousness. Actual treatment itself only takes a matter of minutes, but you may need several treatments a week for a few weeks for it to take effect and for you to see a significant difference. You should start seeing an improvement after the second visit though. Used alongside another treatment, we could even improve on that.
