Today’s study looks at a case from the Journal of Perinatology and it looked at 600,000 children whose mother reported complications during their third trimester of their pregnancy and then they looked at the child after birth and they looked at if they had any signs of being in the autism spectrum disorder or ASD. They noticed that 22% of the children experienced ASD if the mother had experienced any sort of complications during the third trimester of pregnancy. If the mother experienced complications during just the delivery during pregnancy, the child had a 10% chance of having symptoms in ASD. If the mother experienced complications during the pregnancy and the delivery stages of pregnancy, the child had a 44% chance of ASD. So this tells us that it warrants further research to understand the physiological changes that occur to the child in utero during pregnancy.
