Many people will unfortunately experience a headache or migraine at some point or another. There is good news that our Springfield Chiropractor would like to share with you: most headaches are related to the neck or cervical spine, and can be pretty easily treated with chiropractic care.
The exact mechanism of CGH (cervicogenic headache) is under debate, but there are two possible explanations of it that have research attached to them. The first is irritation of the sensory nerves in the upper cervical region that communicate with the fifth cranial nerve and the nucleus, located in the upper cervical region of the spine. The irritation from this results in pain that lingers into the frontal aspect of the greater occipital nerve by connective tissue bridges between the spinal cord and the muscles at the base of the skull.
Our Springfield Chiropractor has news that there is chiropractic treatment to relieve this pain. A mixture of spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapies (myofascial release, active release techniques of the tight suboccipital muscles, manual and home cervical traction, and posture correction are all used to treat CGH.
Sadly, the root cause of the headache may not be uncomplicated. Some warning signs of a complicated type headache include a very intense headache that comes rapidly, noticeable visual or auditory problems, balance disturbance, dizziness, weakness, paralysis, speech difficultiesspringd, mental confusion, nausea, and vomiting.
Our Springfield Chiropractor states that these headaches could be considered very dangerous: a headache that gets very painful and continues to worsen over 24 hours, a headache following head trauma, a headache that wakes one from sleeping, and a headache that lasts longer than 48 hours.
Doctors of chiropractic, like our Springfield Chiropractor are trained to evaluate and treat patients that complain of headaches.
