This is the second part of our safe grocery trip tips post. In part one we suggested ways of planning your trip, social distancing and staying clean. We will now conclude with three more ways to help ensure your trip is as safe as possible.
Watch what You Touch
At this time, you are going to have to use your eyes much more for shopping than ever before. Only if you are 100% certain you will purchase the product should you pick it up. It is very possible that another shopper has touched it first as well, so always ensure you are not touching your face while shopping. Perhaps try and choose products behind the front row as well.
Paying
We’re probably going cashless after all of this, but certainly for now, pay by card if you can. Don’t use cash which is well known to be dirty anyway. Risk of infection is very high with cash right now. You know where your card has been, you know that you should clean it after every use (and your wallet), so the risk of contamination is low.
Disinfect Everything
This is perhaps the biggest pain of all. All nonporous containers and packaging can be cleaned with soap and water or wet wipes before the item is put away. You can even clean your shelves and fridge as well prior to putting things away to be extra safe. It’s well known that the virus can live for several days on hard surfaces, but it’s also well known it’s unable to stand up to soap. Use that to your advantage.
Any bags you can also clean if you plan on recycling for other uses. If you use reusable bags then you should disinfect them also.
These tips will help reduce the possibility of cross contamination. Will it stop it 100%? No, most likely not, but if it drops the chances significantly then it’s worth doing. We must protect our selves and our communities and to help reduce this virus and get back to normal as soon as we can.
Remember, if you’re in pain, please make an appointment to come in and see us.
