Caffeine Use in High Intensity Training
For those of you who regularly do intensive exercise or CrossFit, this is the article for you. In the past years, a lot of research had been conducted on how caffeine affects marathon runner and tri-athletes. Springfield chiropractic wants to tell you about some newly conducted research aimed at people who do CrossFit and intense exercising.
Researchers had 9 in shape cyclists exercise until they were completely exhausted. In the next part of the study, they received a placebo and and did the exercises once more. In the last part, they took a caffeine based pill and repeated the same exercise once more.
Important information to remember is they were not told what the placebo or the caffeine was when they took it.
The caffeine given to them would equal about three 5oz cups of coffee for a male who weighs 70kg. The dosage was around 5mg per kilo. The placebo and caffeine were given one hour prior to exercising.
The results were interesting. A greater tolerance was shown to very intense exercising with 30% added to their time before becoming exhausted when caffeine was in their system compared to being absent. For all of you intense exercisers, before heading to the gym, drink a big cup of coffee. Test it out to see if this study helps you. You might even be able to get a more intense workout.
