At Springfield Chiropractic, we take the Opioid crisis seriously. Recently, this crisis has been in the news. Let’s look at some facts and research on some of the issues we face with this in the US.
Between 2007 and 2014, FAIR health found that patients who had private insurance dependence on opioids increases by 3,203%. Between 2011 and 2015, charges put on private insurance increased from 72 million to 722 millions. A study done by Manchikanti L Helm found that opioids are prescribed in the US are 50 more times than the rest of the rest of the countries in the world together.
In the US, opioid use is at its extreme, and needs to be changed.
Here at Springfield chiropractic, we strive to give patients the best care we can without the use of any drug medications, but by using non invasive therapies and treatments that we have available here. Some of these treatments are chiropractic care, cold laser therapy, therapeutic massage, cryotherapy, Active Release Techniques (ART), acupuncture, stretching exercises, physical therapy even more.
These are all alternative options to opioids and are what should be attempted first and foremost.
Many think that when pain arises they should go to the doctor and get a pain medication prescription in hopes for the pain to go away. The pain usually does not go away for good because the opioid hides the pain while not giving a permanent solution to the problem. This is how we can help at Springfield chiropractic.
Treatment is one thing, educate is the next step. This is what we do here. Education on the problem and treatment options is what will help you find relief the safest and best possible way. If you are educated, the pain will most likely not come back, because you know how to keep yourself at your best. We will always consult with you, and find the best treatment for your body and pain.
The opioid crisis continues to be an issue, but that is why doctors like me are here to educate and give successful treatments that will change your pain and your entire life leaving out the horrible side effects of opioids.
Some states in the US are catching on to the crisis by putting bills in place. In West Virginia, a bill was passed that states medical doctors must refer patients to chiropractors or physical therapists before prescribing any type of opioid. This is great to not only lower the opioid crisis, but help patients find real pain relief and to stop suffering all together. And for some, this may not be enough, but this will help the majority. Im the same state, any insurance company is required to provide a patient with a minimum of 12 chiropractic or PT sessions to cover the treatment expenses.
States like West Virginia will be the ones that help people get on the correct pain treatment track without using any opioids that contain long lasting side effects.
