Migraine sufferers are constantly looking for ways to reduce migraine headaches. These headaches are typically severe in nature and some patients may even experience them a few times a week. Around 1 in 5 people will have a migraine headache in any year in the US, so it is a big problem. Fortunately there are ways to reduce migraine headaches, and we will outline a few of them here.
You are What You Eat
Diet is the first thing to look at. Diet is central to most health issues and maintaining a healthy diet gives the body the best chances of success in remaining fit and healthy. Research has shown that a diet of high carb intake, red meat and high sodium consumption may all have an effect on a patient and migraines. Reducing these food types has led to a reduction of migraine pain and frequency. So this is the first way to reduce migraine headaches.
Vitamins
Increasing vitamin D and some B vitamins may also help in preventing migraines. Being up to date with all other vitamins will help you remain healthy too.
Melatonin
Some studies have found that migraine sufferers who take 2 to 3mg of melatonin before they go to bed has helped. It will certainly aid sleep which in itself helps the body get the rest in needs to help fight any potential migraine.
Staying Hydrated
Again, this should be common sense to maintain a healthy body anyway, but studies have compared migraine patients who drink more water to those who do not, and it was found that those who remained hydrated experienced lower intensity migraines and less frequently. This is a cheap and very easy thing for anyone to do to help themselves.
Chiropractic Treatment
Finally, chiropractic care has been shown to help migraine sufferers. We’ve seen for ourselves that our care has helped many patients manage their migraines. And studies back this up. One study found a reduction in severity and frequency of migraines for those who had regular chiropractic care. Another showed nearly a quarter of all test subjects experienced over a 90% reduction in their symptoms and frequency. So chiropractic care is clearly a great option to help migraine sufferers.
