MUSCLE STRAINS: Muscle strains are the most common injury to the hip and groin because they have such a weight bearing job while running, jumping, climbing, etc. Strains happen more with eccentric muscle contractions than when the muscle is short. For example, lowering the weight during a bicep curl, running down a hill or steps, or lowering the bar to your chest in a bench press.
BURSITIS: A bursa could be described as a fluid filled sac that is located where muscles attach to the bone to aid in lubricating muscles and tendons when hey slide back and forth on each other throughout activity. We have a bursa in a few joints, most commonly found in the hip, shoulder, elbow, and knee. You can injure your bursa by overuse, trauma, or a surgery complication.
CONTUSIONS: This area can be bruised by a direct blow to the hip. Bursitis often happens here and it is most commonly apparent on he side of the hip. This is called a “hip pointer.”
STRESS FRACTURE: These are most commonly found in long distance runners, more so women than men. Other people are also at risk for this: those with nutritional deficiency, and older aged athletes.
LABRAL TEAR: The labrum is a fibrous ring that borders the hip socket, and helps hold the hip joint in place. If this gets a tear, presents experience pain, stiffness, and mobility issues.
FEMOROACETABULAR IMPINGEMENT: Bone Spurs have the ability to form on the rim of the acetabulum. These spurs can cause pinching when the hip is moved to its end motion ranges. This can lead to osteoarthritis and can happen from a torn labrum or capsule.
OSTEITIS PUBIS: This is continuous pulling of the muscle that attaches to the pubic bone. It is many times seen in runners, soccer players, and hockey players. You can even get this from having childbirth.
SPORTS HERNIAS: Springfield says that these are found in mostly athletes that do sports requiring plenty of twisting and turning such as hockey. Researchers think that they are caused by an imbalance between strong thigh muscles and weak abdominal muscles.
