We hope everybody is as well and functioning during these tough times. We are well aware of the many challenges all of us are facing as we adapt to counter this virus threat. Many of course have moved their working lives to their own homes in order to distance from others while helping keep the gears of the economy moving.
Working from home may well become the way of the future, but for many, it is certainly the way of the present. While there are significant advantages to working from home, there are also some challenges that you will likely face. The concept of your work environment invading your home is one such challenge and it can become tricky to walk away from work mode to home mode.
The other of those issues is the working area. It’s not only important to try and set up a good working environment that feels separate from the home, but it also needs to be set up so that it ergonomically benefits you. What do we mean by this? We mean proper desk, proper desk chair and space to ensure that your body is properly supported. Just like it is (or should be) in your actual office environment.
What this boils down to is to resist the urge to work from your sofa if possible. As comfy as it may be, it’s also probably the worst place you could work from as it will put pressure on your back due to your sitting position. The sofa is designed for relaxing on, not working on.
To this end, because there are so many people working from home at this moment (and who knows how long it will last for), Dr Perna has recently been asked and contributed to The Strategist with the article, The Best Ergonomic Office Chairs, According to Chiropractors and an Orthopedic Surgeon. It details several of the best ergonomic chairs currently available through a variety of different price points. You can see the full article and suggestions here.
At Back & Body Pain Relief, we do see a lot of desk workers normally coming in due to poor working posture. We anticipate this may rise due to workers having insufficient chairs and desks at home. We want to preempt this becoming a larger issue by sharing this information now, sooner rather than later.
We have also put together a short video explaining how to improve your home workstation. Check it out below.
