It’s well known that chiropractic care in Springfield is one of the best forms of treatment for low back pain, as it is in the world. However, for the older generation who tend to suffer from poorer healthcare outcomes and suffer degeneration and more wear and tear on their bodies, does this form of manual therapy help them too?
To answer this question, researchers decided to investigate previous studies and extrapolate all relevant data in answering this question. Their criteria was as follows:
Patients who were:
- aged 55 and older
- suffering chronic back pain for three months or more
- had received manual therapy
- were measured for any disability or pain levels
The criteria also excluded the following:
- patients who only received one manual therapy treatment with no follow up
- suffered from any other condition that isn’t low back pain
- patients who previously had back surgeries
Researchers found four studies that included the above criteria and came to the conclusion that chiropractic care also helped this generation too. The treatments helped reduce pain while also increasing functions and movement and side effects were also shown to be very minimal.
This research was vital to helping understand the future needs of people, not only for finding ways to improve health, but also to reduce the burden on the healthcare expenses as one study suggested that a quarter of people entering this age group accounted for over half of all low back pain treatment costs. Chiropractic treatment can help reduce that cost as well.
It is clear that chiropractic care can help most people. Naturally, every case is different which is why examinations and consultations are made prior to all treatment so as to understand the patient’s problems and requirements.
