Low Back Pain: Who Will Respond Best to Care?

Back pain is very common in all people, and will happen to most of us at least once in our life, but what if 07081 chiropractic told you that there is a solution. We see this here at our office everyday, and we are going to tell you the best treatment and exercise options.

A study in 2011 was done to pair the right patients with exercise and spinal manipulation. Researchers picked out patients who they thought would be right for this treatment, and those who would need a more aggressive treatment.

Two concepts of measurements were used. Directional Preference was the first and finds areas of movement where the patient could possibly feel better or worse.  An example would be if a patient feels good bending forward, but had pain bending backwards, and vice versa. Centralization, the second measurement, sees if leg pain is present or not. If present, no exercise should be done to increase the pain. The study, done on 584 patients found that 60 percent had a directorial preference and 60 percent had centralization also.

As the tests went on and explored treatments, it was found that patients with very little to no centralization reacted best to spinal manipulation and exercise. This recused the amount of pain and left them functioning more efficiently. Patients with centralization reacted worse to this treatment type.

Seeing the study above, a chiropractor can quickly evaluate a patients symptoms and give them the best form of treatment for their specific pain. Some may need a more comprehensive care plan, while others will be able to have a regular pain treatment.
