What Treatments Respond Best to Neck Pain?
Neck pain is not as common as back pain, which we discussed in our last post, but it is becoming more apparent with today’s newest technologies. Looking at cellphones and computer screens causes us to push our heads forward, implementing pressure on the neck.
At some point in their life, at least 70 percent of people will experience neck pain, according to statistics. What you may not know is that despite the published studies, there are many treatment options to help the pain. Springfield Chiropractic is going to tell you these treatments.
There have been some studies done, like this one done in 2012. Three treatment options were explored on 272 patients: chiropractic care, medication, and exercise.
The 12 week study shows that the patients with the most pain lost were given the chiropractic care, and used exercises given to them daily.
A year later, the same 272 patients were checked on again, and the same results were discovered. The chiropractic care and exercise had a massive amount of pain loss, more than the medication.
For short to mid term, chiropractic care and exercise along with it has been proven to be the best treatment for neck pain. Most studies were done for short to mid term loss, but one in 2002 showed treatments for long term. Neck pain patients were divided into three groups among 191, and compared the following treatments: spinal manipulation, spinal manipulation AND low tech rehabilitative exercise and spinal manipulation AND high tech machine rehabilitative exercise. Patients were followed for 11 weeks, then followed up after three months, six months, twelve months, and two years to see the treatment effectiveness. The low tech rehabilitative exercise group showed the highest amount of pain loss, which is great news. Obviously spinal manipulation works, but more so along with exercises. Exercises are low cost compared to high tech machinery.
Springfield chiropractic concludes that exercises and chiropractic care show the bet results of neck pain.
